Membership application process
Membership of the CPPSA is open to health professionals from Australia and New Zealand who are working in child protection or have clinical experience of child protection practice, including the assessment, care and management of maltreated children and young people. The Society includes paediatricians and other medical or health practitioners registered in Australia and New Zealand practising in, or with clinical experience in child protection practice, as determined by the Board.
The Society assists health professionals to work together to achieve excellence in the care of maltreated children and young people and to collaborate across a range of activities to meet the purposes outlined in the CPPSA Constitution. See Benefits of Membership.
Applications to join the Society are lodged online. To complete an application, you will need to provide:
- your personal contact details
- your job title
- an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (Your CV will be required for the purpose of approving your membership application and will not be saved)
- a short paragraph on your work experience, interest in child protection, and reasons for joining the CPPSA
- a nominator who is a current CPPSA member and who has agreed to nominate you*
- a declaration that you have read and agree with the Vision, Mission, and Values of CPPSA, the CPPSA Constitution and the CPPSA Code of Conduct

Payment is not required until an application has been considered and approved.
Once your application is approved, payment can be made online via your approved member account within 4 weeks. When payment is made, your member registration will be completed, and you will have access to the features on the Members Home page.
Membership categories
Please review the available membership categories to select the one that best fits your qualifications and experience.
Ordinary membership
- Doctors holding Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or an equivalent professional body, practising in a consultant position, or with clinical experience in, child protection practice, as determined by the Board.
- Other medical practitioners registered in Australia or New Zealand, including career medical officers, practising in or with clinical experience in, child protection practice, as determined by the Board.
Trainee membership
- Doctors who are in Royal College training programs for specialist qualifications with an interest in child protection practice, as determined by the Board.
Associate membership (available in June 2025)
- Professionals including registered nurses, social workers, psychologists and other allied health staff who hold current employment within Australia and/or New Zealand Health, practising in, or with prior experience, and/or a professional interest in child protection practice, as determined by the Board.
Membership fees
- Ordinary member: AUD $400 + GST*
- Trainee member: AUD $200 + GST*
- Associate member: AUD $200 + GST*
* GST refers to a 10% added tax on goods and services. This is only applicable for Australian residents.
Membership applications may take up to 2 – 4 weeks to process from the time the completed application is received. You can contact us if you would like to find out about the progress of your application.
Membership fees are payable within 4 weeks from the application approval by the Board.
With effect from the 1st of July 2024, all memberships will be for the financial year expiring on the 30th of June following renewal or approval of new memberships. Membership applications that are approved within the last three months of the financial year (April-June) will be extended and expire 30th June the following year.
Membership fees are subject to change upon renewal of membership if a change in membership category applies.
Cancellation of membership
Membership may be cancelled at any time by contacting admin@cppsa.au. Please be advised that the membership fee is non-refundable, but this may be considered under exceptional circumstances.
