Burn injuries are not uncommon in children and can arise from accidents, negligence, or abuse. Presented by Dr Maryanne Lobo, this webinar, drawing from published research and the experience of the Victorian Forensic Paediatric Medical Service, aims to provide an overview of the clinical characteristics of burns. It will cover recognition of skin lesions as burns, the mechanisms behind burns, differentiation between immersion patterns and flow/splash patterns of scalds, assessment of the severity of burn injuries, and distinguishing burns from mimics.
Additionally, it will highlight the significance of multidisciplinary assessment, the need for screening for occult head and bone injuries, and the supporting evidence base.
