Presented by Dr Lori Frasier, this webinar will address how child protection physicians are being presented in the media often involving high profile court cases. The pendulum has swung from medical and legal failures that result in injuries and well-publicised death cases towards medical and science denialism. Such backlash is not new but is taking on more recent significance in the US, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand with the pervasiveness of social media. The public perception that child protection physicians are over-reaching and using debunked science in their diagnoses is becoming pervasive. Podcasters and others are presenting what appears to be scintillating claims of false diagnoses and therefore victimized families. The presenter will discuss the components of denialism in child protection work and some approaches to working within this current environment.
